Of Djelibeybi Council: or
How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Magistrates
From the screenplay "Dr. Strangelove" by Stanley Kubrick, 1964
"Sir, you can't let him in here. He'll see everything. He'll see the big board!"
Under the slow, rolling sun that seeps honey, dappled rays across the mighty Empire that is Djel, Five Magistrates reside working thoroughly and steadily within the Council Rooms to ensure the cogs and wheels of the Council remain well-greased and in motion. At times our role becomes tedious and may appear lethargic but this is a necessary evil as our Citizens have elected Five Magistrates and each of these Magistrates should have a say to represent the Citizens who cast their votes.
To keep yourself an informed, educated, and reassured citizen some effort will be demanded upon your part. Excluding the Magistrate's Board and private exchanges, regular public records of your Magistrate's activities exist for the willing citizen. Here are a few suggestions to maintain regular and current knowledge on the antics of the Council:
1. The Papyrus, The Desert Dispatch: These two publications appear on roughly a monthly basis and both do a superb job of allowing one to keep up-to-date on Council matters. The Desert Dispatch, from the AM Daily, is a handy article most often written by Magistrate Keb with the odd guest writer. The DD explains any monthly news occurrences, new citizens, as well as cases closed. The Papyrus is Djelibeybi's very own publication and carries a variety of information specifically targeted at Djelian life and published by Djelians. The DD is made available through past editions of the Daily and past editions of the Papyrus appears for free at the Council's web page: enop.org/djbcouncil
2. Documents are your Friend: The Document Office is located just north of the Court Rooms at the Palace (or can quickly be reached at the Council web page or the MUD's homepage). The Documents that exist provide extensive information on the role of positions such as the Nawab and Vizier, the official documents that the Magistrates use, and also contains some further financial information.
3. Djelibeybi's Finances: Financial information can quickly be gathered through a short visit at the Palace. Downstairs in the Council Rooms one will find the Treasury and "check balance" or "view transactions" will make any interested citizen quickly an informed citizen. Likewise, the financial information for the KCC club, an arm of the Council for interested citizens, can be found on the top floor of the Palace in the club room. "financials kcc" provides the information of KCC matters and most specifically the transactions of the Nawab.
4. Who are my Magistrates?: As a Djelian citizen you should try to remain informed on who your Magistrates are. If we return to the Council Rooms just south of the reception area is the voting room. In addition to voting you can "list elections" which will inform you that: "The current magistrates of Djelibeybi are Penguin, Clover, Keb, Leyan and Greygrene." In addition to this, information is also provided of when the next round of elections will be. In this case: "The next election is at Wed May 23 13:36:57 2007."
5. Finally, speak with your Magistrates! You the citizens elected us and please send tells, send MUD mails, post questions on the Council board. Specifically, I strongly encourage you to make sure that the Magistrates you voted for are on task! The Magistrates, excepting the most sensitive of cases that demand discretion, are here to help and are hiding nothing (excluding our collection of fine wines, imported cigars, and late 12th Century examples of sand art).
Before signing off, I would like to remind our fine Citizens that the Magistrates are people too. They have dinner to make, work to attend, bathrooms to paint. This should never signify that we don't care but should emphasize that occasionally other demands come first and patience is requested of the citizenry.
My name is Clover.
I am a proud Citizen and Magistrate of Djelibeybi.
I am a Witch.
I AM NOT A CRAZED BOMBER IN THE WAR ROOM.
