1984 Djelian Nights
By Fane Slanning.
"He who controls the past, controls the future. He who controls the future controls the past."
Winston Smith - the downtrodden symbolic representation of the average man/woman in The Party.
Big Brother - the leader (dictator) of The Party.
Fungi - the symbolic representation of the average man/woman who is a citizen.
Modesty forbids me from identifying individuals. Insert your own names as you see fit.
Magistrates - the dictators.
"He who is a mushroom gets covered in shit."
1984:
Winston Smith. Winston is a member of the Party, working in the Records Department of the Ministry of Truth. His job is to rewrite documents and alter records and newspaper articles. The story starts when Winston begins to become skeptical of the ruling dictatorship of the party. Doing so he buys himself a book, a rare thing, to use it as a diary. As individual expression was forbidden by the Party, having a diary was a crime, which could be punished with death.
KCC:
"Funghi" is a member of the Party. His job is to work for the betterment of the citizens. Trouble starts when Winston becomes aware of the workings of the ruling dictatorship. He starts to keep a diary.
1984:
When Winston makes the first entry in the diary, he thinks about an experience he has made during the Two Minute Hate, a propaganda film that repeats each day. During this Film he caught the eye of O'Brien, a member of the Inner Party, of whom he thought that he might also stand critic to the regime. After the reflection, Winston finds that he has written the sentence: "Down with Big Brother" all over the page.
KCC:
When Fungi makes the first entry in the diary, he thinks about a conversation with a former magistrate (lets call him Gilfaethwy) whom he thought he might also stand critic to the regime. After the reflection, he finds that he has written the sentence: "Down with the KCC" all over the page.
1984:
Big Brother controls the propaganda of all information that the Party and the Proles are fed. False information and a change in fortunes means that the Records Department is working round the clock to re-write history so that it reflects the current state of affairs. The truth is long forgotten, hidden by meaningless words and fabrications dictated by Big Brother.
KCC:
The KCC controls the propaganda of all information that the man and woman in the Bazaar are fed. False information and a change in fortunes means that they work round the clock to reflect their view of affairs. The truth is long forgotten, hidden by meaningless words dictated by the KCC.
1984:
Winston's Crimes are discovered and he is sent for re-education. He is taken to Room 101. For each person, room 101 contains their own personal hell. For Winston it is a cage containing two rats, with a fixture like a fencing mask attached, into which the face of the victim is strapped and there is a lever, that opens the cage, so that the rats can get to the face. His fears are greater than his belief, and so it is sacrificed for the good of The Party.
KCC:
Fungi's activites are no longer tolerated by the KCC. He is sent to his own personal hell of verbal torture by the KCC. His beliefs are greater than his fears, and so he sacrifices himself for the good of mushrooms everywhere.
1984:
Winston is a good Party Member, barely acknowledging former acquaintances, even former lovers. He serves on
a sub-committee that has no power.
KCC:
Fungi is no longer a Party Member. He barely acknowledges Party Members. He lives without the restriction of
self-serving committees. They have no power over him.
