Upon hearing about Haug's new shop, "Haugies", I decided to set out on a journey to visit it, and see what it had to offer to a Djelian. Located in Escrow, it's a pretty long trip for a Djelian, but with the miracles of modern transport, it shouldn't be too time consuming for the discerning shopper.
I decided to start by getting the intercontinental Express Carriage to Ankh-Morpork. This slightly bumpy ride only took five minutes or so, and I was standing in the fabled Big Wahoonie itself. From here, I was quickly able to get a taxi to the small town of Escrow where the shop is located.
Escrow itself is a quiet little town located in Uberwald. Upon arrival, I took a moment to view the local scenery, then decided that since it was the middle of the night, that was a fruitless endeavour. I walked across the town square to the southeast corner where Haugies is located, and proceeded within.
Upon entering the shop, the first thing that hit me was the generally uncluttered appearance of the shop, with it's midnight black walls, firebrick red ceiling, and pleasant worn oak flooring, (which adds to the slightly rustic feel of the shop, fitting choice considering the location). There are three counters in the shop; a bank counter - a branch of Stabbas, a money changing counter - currently only changing between Lancrastian and Morporkian currency, although Haug has said he will change this soon to do most currencies, and, of course, the shop counter. There is also an automagical pickler, soon to be available to use freely for all your preservation needs. Added to this, there is a blackboard showing the approximate conversion rates for different types of currency, helpful for quick calculations.
The shop itself has a variety of magical items and poisons, such as blue rings of varying charges, scrolls of JPCT, and Killer Poisons. All of these are charged at very reasonable prices, and the range of items available will be expanded soon.
A note of warning: Unless you know your way around Escrow and Uberwald, don't try to wander back in the dark. I did, and quickly discovered the thik forest surrounding the town to be full of wolves that nearly killed me.
All in all, it is a pleasant trip, and the shop itself is very good for poison and magical items and components at good prices, or, if you feel, pickling those perishables for souvenirs.
