Elections for the esteemed positions of Magistrate have once more commenced in the great city of Djelibeybi. With the nomination phase just finished, the complete list of candidates first became available a few days ago.
First, of course, are the honoured magistrates that served during the term just ending. Leyan, Narf, and Ptoley are all running again, though Fewms has chosen to sit out the coming term to allow fresh blood to influence the future of Klatch. Greygrene is also not running for magistrate, presumably because his bloated corpse is rotting in a garlic field somewhere.
Challenging the incumbants and vying for the two empty seats are Caemos, Distran, Gwydion, Lorim, Nabber, and Ptenisnet. This means that Gwydion, Leyan, Nabber, Narf, or Ptoley must be elected to fill the PK seat. However, since there are only nine seats and five PKs, one of them would unavoidably be elected even if the fourt NPKs were the top four choices of the people.
Here at The Papyrus we predict that the incumbants will retain their positions, due to a lack of any recent uproar about their job performance. Gwydion stands a good chance due to his past and current involvement in matters of importance to the government of Klatch. Lorim, as Nawab of the Treasury, is also likely to get some positive name recognition for his service in making financial recommendations to the Council.
Nabber also may be a popular choice, due to his prominence in CONDM and advanced age that some might equate to wisdom. However, his life as a PK thief may also have negative ramifications at the polls. Ptenisnet may very well hold his own, due to his dedication to Djelibeybi and decent age. Finally there are Caemos and Distran, Morporkian wizards who may be greeted by more of a "Who the hell are you?" attitude from the citizens of Djelibeybi.
So we predict the following winners, in the following order:
Narf,
Ptoley,
Leyan,
Gwydion, and
Lorim.
Good luck to all the nominees, and may the best men win with a minimum of feces tossing and bloodshed!
